Photo 1I chose this photo due to the composition, with a large number of overlapping lines, and the point of view (beneath the power line). A contrast is created between the sides of the metal receiving direct sunlight and the metal receiving no light, remaining in shadow. The photo was taken with a large depth of field, allowing the entirety of the structure to remain in focus. The photo has a very interesting, unexpected point of view, taken directly below the structure, allowing for a large variety of lines. The incredibly large structure speaks to how small human beings are, and how as humans we are able to create incredible things.

Photo 2This photo was taken at Somerset Berkley Regional High School. In terms of composition it was chosen due to the point of view and the positive and negative space. In terms of the point of view, the photo almost appears as though it was taken level with the flag. Although this is not the case, the point of view chosen (at an angle from the ground) creates this interesting illusion. There is a sharp contrast created between the vibrant colors of the flag and the somewhat dull cloudy sky. The natural lighting allows the colors of the flag to stand out and remain vibrant. This photo seems to convey a feeling of patriotism, as the flag rises out of the somewhat dark clouds into the lighter sky. The flag stands out, with no other positive space in the image to take away focus from it.

Photo 3This photo was taken in the front of Somerset Berkley Regional High School. Compositional strengths in the photo are the depth in the image, and the use of the rule of thirds. The photo was taken with a shallow depth of field, with the tree in focus and background blurred. There is a contrast between the natural colors of the tree and the white colors of the school. The photo conveys a separation between nature and the man-made world. The tree represents the natural world and the school represents the unnatural world created by humanity. The tree in focus and school blurred represents the significance of nature in the world.

Photo 4This image was chosen due to the vibrant yellow color in the photo. Compositionally the photo was taken with thought towards the repetition and close distance from the subject. Technically, the photo has an interesting contrast with the very dark background and bright yellow flowers. The photo is neither over or underexposed, allowing for detail to be seen in the flowers while still maintaining their brightness. The photo communicates a happy, carefree mood due to the warm color and repetitiveness of the flowers.

Photo 5This photo was chosen due to the editing and shadows. Compositionally, the photo includes thought towards focal points (with the colors sticking out) and negative space, as the black background makes the subject stand out, and the shadows seem o make him blend into the background. In terms of technical aspects, the photo includes heavy contrast between the vibrant red and green against the black and white, and a focus on lighting (shadows are a major part of the image, which has to do with the positioning of the light. The photo has a serious mood due to the facial expression of the subject and use of shadow.

Photo 6I chose this photo due to the vibrant red lettering on the sign. Composition-wise the photo shows depth and the rule of thirds. In terms of technical aspects, the photo was taken with a large depth of field and a heavy focus on the sign. The photo seems to have a serious mood, due to the rules on the sign in a harsh red color sticking out against the background. The words on the sign are given power due to the blurred background, creating an emphasis on them.
